back in the day #2

fairy winkles!  every easter morning after church my sister and i would come home to hunt for our easter baskets.  neither of us were that crazy about chocolate and candy so my mom always got us more creative gifts.  my favorite year was the year i got fairy winkles!  the set i got came in a swan and i played for hours and hours.  i still come across one of the tiny little creatures every once in a while when i sort through my things and it always puts a smile on my face.  i love make believe :)

grammys usher/bieber performance

so i knooow it's lame to like justin bieber, but one can't deny his talent.  tonight's grammy performance with usher was so fantastic, and i was so impressed with the way it all played out.  throughout the entire performance, usher said oh my gosh instead of god and i wonder if it was for justin bieber's sake as i believe he is a christian.  i think it's amazing that an artist can show that much respect for another to change a prominent lyric in one of their songs.  props to usher!

back in the day #1

i came up with a new blog post series. enjoy!

every once in a while i get a random memory of a toy i had when i was young.  some didn't last long, but i had fun with every single one.  toys in the late 80's-early 90's were the best...

SMOOSHEES!!

smooshees were little animals and people who had disproportionately large arms and legs and were made out of super soft fabric.  they came with tiny little houses into which they were stuffed.  this was the toy i brought camping as i could play with it in the dirt and it could be easily washed.  i remember having so much fun with my little mouse with cheese and puppy with his doghouse, i wish i knew where they ended up.
if you are looking for a little nostalgia, you can buy them here or here.

my best friend loves giraffes and i am instantly drawn to them since knowing her.  giraffe love!

the first little guy is from a cute little shop over at etsy called aicreatures. loooove the unique designs.

the second is just the cutest baby giraffe that has ever existed. i want him.

the third is from trafalgarssquare.  check out the etsy shop!

the final giraffe is one that a friend gave another friend at a baby shower i recently attended.  i almost bought it for myself, and i may have to order one :)

puzzle&jewel

so where did i get the name puzzle & jewel?  puzzle is a naive silly little donkey and jewel is a unicorn in the last book of the chronicles of narnia, the last battle.  i just love the series (as previously mentioned in this post) and i loved both characters and it makes a perfect name, perfect for my little sewing business and blog!  not the most interesting story behind the title, but maybe it will make you interested to read the book if you haven't already.  i'll post a picture of the adorable little puzzle mascot i found at a thrift store in a future post.

a godly woman

i love proverbs 31.  i know a lot of women find it to be degrading in some ways, or not relevant to today, but it is my favorite chapter of the bible.  one day i pray God will help me to become the proverbs 31 woman, a woman who fears the Lord and follows Jesus in every possible way.

to narnia and the north!

i loooove c.s. lewis and the chronicles of narnia.  the biblical symbolism gives me goosebumps and its generally just an amazing series.  after re-reading the series again this year, i began to see this world every time i stepped outside.  about a month ago i went ice-fishing with a couple friends and my sister and we pretended we narrated our walk as if we were in the book.

i live in the most beautiful place in the world.. how many times can i say it? <3

kiwi love

every year in fernie new people wander in looking to snowboard or ski for the winter.  we get an absurb amount of powder snow every year and since you can live here cheaper than whistler, we get hundreds of aussies and kiwis every year.  a kiwi friend of mine has introduced me to some huge cultural differences between canada and new zealand and i'm fascinated by the country now.

one of the coolest parts of kiwi culture is the maori people who were the natives of new zealand before it was settled by europe.  rugby is to new zealand like hockey is to canada or football is to the states and the all blacks rugby team perform a haka before every game.

this is the war dance, but they have many different kinds of dances in the maori culture.  i just love how intimidating this is, it's like every single muscle in their body is tensed up.

add seeing this in person to the list of things to do before i die :)

gnomes :)

anyone seen the ads for gnomeo & juliet?  i've had an obsession with gnomes since i was about six years old, i asked my mom to put some in our yard for years. when i was thirteen i painted one with my best friend at one of those pottery places and we named him mcgillicutty.  needless to say, this movie is one thing i am definitely looking forward to this year.

here are some wonderful little gnome wants on etsy

blonde's have more fun

i love when i'm blonde. i, like most have had every "natural" hair colour known to mankind, and i'm always happiest when i'm blonde. the problem is, my hair pulls gold. going blonde is quite the process. today has been a day of frustration and tears (yes i'm dramatic) but tomorrow all will be well.

ta-da! my yellow, in between hair!

business casual...?

so i (sort of) recently moved back home, to the beautiful little town of fernie, british columbia.  i lived in calgary and victoria for a while, but nothing compares to the mountains!  after doing nothing but sewing and reading for months and months (i know, living the life hehe) i decided i need to get a job.  i've worked supervisory positions at every job i've had but they all tended to be fast food or movie stores and i never had to worry about the uniform as it was provided. getting back into the workforce with a desk job is proving difficult regarding clothes, my closet is empty of anything professional. while browsing urban outfitters, i came across these gems!  might stop by the store when i visit edmonton this weekend for the edmonton oilers vs nashville predators (yay!) but more on that later.
